What’s the Ford F-250 Powerstroke towing capacity for your truck, and how does cab configuration factor into it? Depending on your cab and configuration, this 6.7-liter High-Output Powerstroke V8 Turbo Diesel Engine can tow up to 22,000 lbs when properly equipped. Before you hook up your next load, find out how much your truck and diesel powertrain can pull at Jim Riehl’s Friendly Ford.

Regular Cab

Let’s start with the Regular Cab configuration, which features either a 4x2 or 4x4 setup on your truck. At a minimum, you can tow 16,200 lbs on this model; that’s enough to haul larger loads in big trailers or to tow heavy equipment and materials. The maximum towing capacity on this model is 20,000 lbs, available with both the 3.31 and 3.55 axle ratio.

SuperCab™

If you drive a Ford F-250 Super Duty with the 6.7-liter diesel powertrain and a SuperCab™ configuration, you have a wider range of towing capacity. Models with the eight-foot box, 164.2-inch wheelbase, and 4x4 drivetrain can tow 15,800 lbs with the 3.31 axle ratio. Add the High-Capacity Axle Upgrade Package, and either the 3.31 or 3.55 axle ratio unlocks 22,000 lbs—the top conventional rating on this truck.

Crew Cab

Finally, the Ford F-250 Super Duty with Crew Cab can also tow up to 22,000 lbs on 4x4 models with the High-Capacity Axle Upgrade Package. Without it, the lowest rating is 15,500 lbs on the 4x4 with the eight-foot box. With the High Output diesel, Tremor® Off-Road Package, and electronic-locking 3.55E axle ratio, a 4x4 short-box model tows 18,200 lbs.
